Survey about Creativity and User Experience in Sound Design

Survey about Creativity and User Experience in Sound Design

Why do music producers choose and use certain musical instruments and sound-generation technologies for their creative work? This online survey investigates how music producers choose and experience different technologies for sound design and music production.

It is part of my Bachelor’s thesis in Media Informatics at IU – Internationale Hochschule. Title of the thesis is 'Between Haptics, Flexibility, and Automation: The Influence of Hardware-, Software-, and AI-based Sound Design on the Creativity and User Experience of Music Creators.'

The study focuses on the role that hardware instruments, software instruments, and AI-based sound generation tools play in the creative process. It examines why music creators use particular technologies and how these technologies are perceived in terms of creative support, and user experience. Please join this study.

Sound Design Survey

What is Sound Design in This Study?

In this survey, sound design refers to the creation, selection, modification, and shaping of individual sounds for music production. This includes technologies such as:

  • Hardware synthesizers
  • Software synthesizers
  • Sampling instruments
  • AI-based sound generation tools

What Will You Be Asked?

The survey focuses on two practical sound-design tasks:

  • Designing a lead sound, the main melodic sound in a track
  • Designing a bass drum (kick drum) sound

Participation is voluntary and takes approximately 15–20 minutes. All responses are collected anonymously and are used exclusively for academic research as part of the Bachelor’s thesis.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this study and contribute to this research.
