Interview with DAVE TV
In 2022, DAVE TV visited me at my studio in Dresden to take a look behind the scenes of my work as Insect O. I show my studio setup, talk about my favourite synthesizers and my creative process, and share insights into my live performance at Fusion Festival. I also talk about the production of my Atacama album and the ideas behind the music. Watch the full interview on YouTube.
Modular Synthesizer
Modular synthesizers are electronic musical instruments made up of separate modules that can be connected in countless ways to create unique sounds and soundscapes. Unlike fixed-architecture synthesizers, modular systems allow you to shape your own signal flow by patching cables between different modules, opening up almost endless possibilities for sound creation.
I call this creative freedom.
Computer, DAW and Plugins
I mainly use the computer as a multitrack recorder and have been working with Logic Pro X as my main DAW for many years. My recording setup includes an RME Fireface 802, Ferrofish Pulse 16, and UAD Apollo X4. I particularly enjoy using Universal Audio’s compressors and equalisers, as well as the WES Audio Dione 500-series bus compressor. Soundtoys EchoBoy has become an essential part of my tracks for delays, while Eventide reverbs add depth and space to the mix. The RME analyser gives me a clear visual representation of the sound image.
